Who wants to die? NYSC: Corps members besiege Abuja for redeployment

At Abuja yesterday, Wednesday Corps members numbering about 500 converged on the FCT Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja, seeking redeployment.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the corps members were those who could not be deployed in the states where they underwent orientation.

NAN learnt that the highest number came from Kaduna, Kano, Maiduguri and Bauchi states.
The Director of Corps Mobilisation at the NYSC Headquarters, Mrs. Mercy Kolajo, and other workers in the department, have been at the orientation camp since July 26, effecting the redeployment of the corps members.
The Deputy Director of Publication of the NYSC, Mr. Peter Atilola, explained that they had to move the corps members to the camp so as not to disrupt activities at the headquarters and adjoining offices.
He said the headquarters decided to attend to the corps members because they were not able to secure deployment from their various states due to some reasons.
Atilola assured that the scheme would do what was right for the corps members so that their service year would be a success.
He said corps members from Yobe and Borno who were undergoing orientation in Nasarawa and Benue states, would go back if they desired to do their primary assignments in those states.
NAN reports that 1,277 of the 2,150 corps members posted to Kano State for the 2012 Batch ‘B’ service year have so far sought redeployment to other states. - source
