2go in Nigeria: 2go effects on Nigeria students and WAEC Results

Social network is social structure made up of individuals who are connected by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationship etc. The growth and popularity of social networking platforms and websites such as 2go, facebook, twitter etc having millions of users, are exponentially increasing every day. Research put it that a total population of 30% of 20 million and 500 million Nigeria user in 2go and facebook respectively.

I want to submit to you that Social networks such as 2go, facebook, twitter, myspace etc despite it’s positive gain also comes with its negative side especially other Nigeria students. Recently i read in the Nations newspaper how students were posting nude pictures on 2go. Not quite long, the West African Examination Council announced that the year result recorded a mass failure.
Social network has affected student spelling library. 2go like other social networks has its own language usage to communicate faster. For instance, you have to shortened so many words to pass across your intent. Example is lol - laughing out loud, lols for lots of love, OMG- oh my God. This has affected student’s spelling.
The Social network like 2go mainly as also affected students’ grammar and communication skill. They also omit pronouns, prepositions and some other parts of speech. Example is hw u? Which would mean “how are you?” and a lot are more. This omission of part of speech in 2go has seriously affected the students’ grammar. Because larger percent of Nigeria students use most of their time chatting on 2go, they become accustom to this language errors and eventually tell on their results.
Another thing that affect student mass failure is the sacrificing of study hour for socializing. Since majority of the Nigeria students spend their time on 2go, they hardly read.
Eyes straining has also become a commonly reported problem among students due to the time spent on focusing.
This is detrimental to the future of this country Nigeria.
Should we say social networks like 2go be scrapped considering the advantages?
Should there be introduction of policies that we put a restriction on age and academic level if possible?
How can socializing on 2go, facebook be done in such away that it will not affect lives, exam results and the nation as a whole?
This current trend, if unchecked may affect the collapsing education system of the country.
What do you think? I will like to hear your response on this matter.
